The New Fender '57 Twin-Amp Reissue Amplifier at Guitar Rez
One of the most highly regarded and sought-after vintage amplifiers of all time has been given the first-class reissue treatment by
Fender's Custom Amplifier Division. The '57 Twin Amp, also
known as the "Low Powered Tweed Twin" has long been a
favorite of legendary rockers like Keith Richards and Eric Clapton. One listen, and you know exactly why!
At low to medium volumes the '57 Twin-Amp delivers big warm
clean tones rich in harmonic, perfect for roots rock, country and
blues guitar styles. When you crank it up, watch out! At high
volumes the Twin-Amp serves up thick, complex distorted tones that rock with authority.
The '57 Twin-Amp redproduces the 1955-1957 low-pwered
5E8-A circuit, which delivers 40 watts of power into a pair of Tom Weber designed 12" Alnico magnet speakers mounted diagonally on the baffle board. This amp also utilizes Fender's rare dual
rectifier arrangement of twin 5U4GB rectifier tubes. The twin
rectifiers deliver a punchier, less compressed tone than most of
the amps made in the "tweed" era. An internal bias adjustment
allows for use of a wide range of 6L6-style power tubes. The amp comes from the factory with American made Groove Tubes 6L6-GE's.
Guitar Rez has been a Groove Tubes dealer for over a decade, and we feel Fender made an excellent choice of power tube for this amp.
The front panel controls on the '57 Twin-Amp are the four inputs (two normal, and two bright), normal and bright volume controls, and treble, bass and presence tone controls. Other construction details include an impressive finger-jointed pine cabinet covered in beautiful lacquered tweed luggage covering.
With an MSRP of $2,999, this amp isn't cheap! But in the high
priced spread of handmade boutique amps, we feel that the
Fender '57 Twin does the best job of capturing that old "tweed-
style" Fender tone of all the new amps we've heard.
