This could be the best J-Bass you've ever played!
The G&L JB-2 incorporates all the traditional qualities we know and
love while still solving the "vintage" problems we all can do without!
First and foremost, the tone is very traditional. The pickups are great
sounding medium output single coils with Alnico magnets. The sound is
sweet and clear. The controls are traditional as well..no active preamp
to get in the way of the natural tone of the bass. There's a volume
control for each pickup, and one master tone control.
The body is medium weight alder, chosen for its smooth, even tone
without excess weight. This bass weighs in at 8 lbs. 13 oz.
Leo Fender's design innovations with the G&L company make the JB-2
superior to traditional instruments in many ways. The tone and
volume of all the notes are more even thanks to the "Bi-Cut"
construction and the 6-bolt neck joint. The new neck construction
method takes a one-piece neck and splits it to allow installation of the
truss rod. The neck is then glued back together so the wood grains
don't line up together like on the original piece. The result is a
stronger neck that won't warp, and the elimination of the irritating
dead spots often found on the old style one piece maple necks. This a good
time to mention that the G&L JB-2 has the wonderful slim-tapered
Jazz-style neck, with a nut width of only 1-1/2 Inches!
Many of us have spent lots of $$ on traditional basses for hardware
to help improve the sustain of the bass. The G&L "Saddle-Lock" bridge
is Leo Fender's answer to the BadAss bridge. The G&L bridge is
actually inset into the wood. It's massive, and durable. The G&L
bridge locks together to keep your instrument adjusted over a long
period of time. No more looking for little screws that have fallen out
or readjusting the intonation because the saddles have "crawled" to a
different place! Another little G&L innovation is the light weight,
tapered aluminum tuning post. This reduces the weight at the
headstock, and pulls the string to the bottom of the post without need-
ing several turns of the string.
The G&L JB-2 solves all the vintage problems without losing the
vintage feel or tone!
